BEPS - Bound EPS
Lightweight
Thermal insulation materials made from bonded EPS fillings, hereinafter referred to as BEPS for short, consist of expanded polystyrene beads (EPS) and mineral binders. They are used for the thermal insulation of buildings, preferably in ceilings and roofs.
Since January 2018, the RAL quality mark “Thermal insulation materials made of EPS fills (BEPS)” can be awarded for quality assurance purposes.
Anwendung von BEPS (Bound EPS)
Application of BEPS (Bound EPS)
BEPS insulation materials have been used successfully for decades for both thermal insulation and impact insulation.
Thanks to their flowability during installation, BEPS insulation materials are particularly suitable for leveling out height differences, pipes and installation lines and as a substructure for screeds or bathtubs and shower trays. They can be walked on shortly after installation and reach their leveling moisture content after just two days.
Due to the simple shaping of BEPS fills, these insulating materials are suitable for a number of other applications, particularly for sloping roofs.

Labeling
BEPS products have to be identified through labeling.
Standard
Insulating products made from BEPS are specified in following standards and approvals:

Flexible Elastomeric Foam - Polyethylene Foam
(FEF-PEF)
The working committee FEF/PEF was founded under the roof of GSH in May 2010 within a GSH general assembly in Bremen. Participants and therefore founding members of the first meeting were the companies Armacell, Kaimann, NMC and Firo. Other companies joined and the working group meanwhile represents the majority of European FEF/PEF manufacturers.
Since June 2010 the basis for the establishment of the quality conditions for FEF and PEF insulating products were set and since March 2011 the RAL-Quality Mark can be used. The quality and test regulations for FEF and PEF were published in January 2011.
The working group FEF/PEF understands itself as European mouthpiece for the industry. Technical questions and contacts to European associations or authorities are constant topics in the meetings.
Labeling
FEF/PEF products have to be identified through labeling.

Insulating material made out of Polyurethane Foam Bords (PUR)
Use of PUR
Insulating materials made from PUR are used in various fields such as building construction, building services, industial insulation and as in-situ foam. For more detailed information please get into contact with the manufacturer.
Training as a foamer
In addition to monitoring the quality of our members' products, GSH is also responsible for training foaming technicians. Every year, together with the German Construction Industry Federation (HDB) and the Central Association of the German Construction Industry (ZDB), examinations are held and foamer certificates are issued.

Vacuum-Insulation Panels (VIP)
General Information
Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIP) are high-performance thermal insulation panels which offer extrem high thermal insulation at minimum thickness.
With identical heat transition coefficient (U value) VIP has a 5 to 10 times lower thickness as conventional insulaton material used in construction such as for example Polystryene, Polyurethane, Glass Wool and Mineral Wool.
While the thermal conductivity (Lambda) for other insulating material lies in the range from 0,035 to 0,040 W/(m × K), VIP reaches measured lambda value of < 0,005 W/(m × K).
The pressure-stable core material of VIP consists of panels made out of pressed, microporous powder. For the most part it is fumed silicia which is very suitable for VIPs with a long operating life due to its special structure.
The core is covered with metalized high-barrier foil and then evacuated, that means air extraction and sealed and locked permanent gas-tight in vacuum.
Field of Application
Vacuum Insolation Panels can be used advantageously in areas where space is limited and good thermal insulation is needed.
VIPs enable high-insulating and slim construction in particular for temperature-controlled packaging, for refrigeratores and freezers and for miscellaneous further technical applications.
In the building sector you can use VIPs for example in the area of patio insulation, floor insulation for winter gardens or cold-storage rooms, inside insulation, ceiling insulation, entrance door panels, facade elements etc.
For many of these applications official building approvals are to be found or they already have been applied for.
Inquiries concerning the approvals can be made to the individual members of GSH-VIP.
Safety Data Sheet
You can receive safety data sheets from all member companies of the GSH-VIP group or find the data sheets on the respective website available for download.

Insulating Material made out of extruded Polystryene (XPS)
Use of XPS
Extruded polystyrene (XPS) is a closed-cell and hard insulation made out of polystyrene which has a high mecanical strength and a high resistant against moisture.
The foam was originally developed in the 40´s in the USA for the production of swim and flotation panels.
Because of its good thermal insulation properties, XPS is used since the 50´s in the construction sector.
XPS is predominant used in areas, in which the heat insulation is exposed to high humidity stress and/or mechanical load. Typical areas of use are flat roofs (inverted roof, green roofs, terrace roofs, parking decks, etc.), floors (loadabsorbing) and base and perimeter insulation.
Furthermore XPS is found in the field of house technic, industrial installations and in road construction.
Labeling
XPS-products need to be marked through adequate labeling.
Standards
Insulating products made out of XPS are specified in following standards :
-
EN 13164 Thermal insulation products for buildings. Factory made extruded polystyrene foam (XPS) products - Specification
-
EN 14307 Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - Factory made extruded polystyrene foam (XPS) products - Specification
