Use of XPS

extruded polystyrene (XPS) is a closed-cell and hard insulation made out of polystyrene which has a high mecanical strength and a high resistant against moisture.

The foam was originally developed in the 40´s in the USA for the production of swim and flotation panels.

Because of its good thermal insulation properties, XPS is used since the 50´s in the construction sector.

XPS is predominant used in areas, in which the heat insulation is exposed to high humidity stress and/or mechanical load. Typical areas of use are flat roofs (inverted roof, green roofs, terrace roofs, parking decks, etc.), floors (loadabsorbing) and base and perimeter insulation.

Furthermore XPS is found in the field of house technic, industrial installations and in road construction.

Labeling

XPS-products need to be marked through adequate labeling.
